Sue says:
I have a William Maddy born Llanigon 28 May 1769 who was the elder brother of my Evan Maddy born 29 May 1774 Llanigon. This William seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth for a long while and I assumed at one point that he had possibly died young but could find nothing to suggest this. I then had an e-mail from somebody who had links with Clyro who gave me a marriage of a William Price Maddy and a Mary Webb at Clyro on 26 June 1794. The birthdate I have for him suggests he would then be 25; Mary was named as a minor. The middle name Price may have been because his mother's maiden name was Price.
According to my information, William died aged 46 on 6 April 1814 which again is about right for his birth date. He was buried in Lloyney in Clyro parish, and Mary was buried there on 31 December 1847 aged 74 having been born 1773. This all seemed to fit in except that according to other sources William was apparently born 12 July 1769 at The Bage, Dorstone, Herefordshire. I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on this? Mary was apparently born at Llangyndr (BRE). I really don't know whether I am chasing the right man but there seems to have been quite a clan of Maddys living in Clyro during the 1700s and onwards. They seemed at one time to have owned Clyro Court, or at least have it on mortgage or lease.
If anyone has perhaps found a burial for a William Maddy born Llanigon around the period of this William's birth or has another marriage which would fit the picture I would be grateful.
