Roger William PRYTHERCH/PRYDDERCH of Breconshire

BLFHS member Sue Painter wishes find out more about Roger William PRYTHERCH who is recorded on the 1911 census as living in Brecon with Sue's grandfather. If you can help, or know of anyone who may be interested in this PRYTHERCH of Brecon, Sue would be delighted to hear from you.

Main details:

John Prytherch Thomas was my grandfather and was married to Elizabeth Herbert. They had three children: Gwenllian Mary Thomas, who taught at Mount Street School, John Maxwell, and my mum, Margaret Elizabeth. They lived at 3 Kensington Terrace and then moved to Forge Villa. I've found them on the 1911 census, when they had a Roger William Prytherch, aged 13, living with them. He is listed as a boarder and a scholar. It seems a bit odd to me having the name Prytherch as it's such an unusual name. I'm wondering if it was either a relative or my grandfather's son. If anyone knows anything at all I would be very interested and very grateful.

According to the GRO births index on the FreeBMD website, Roger Williams PRYTHERCH's birth was registered in the Brecknock registration district in the December quarter of 1897 (volume 11b, page 71). It might be worth Sue's while to purchase his birth certificate in order to identify his parents and his exact place of birth.
Prytherch is a spelling variant of Prydderch. The 1901 census shows a three-year-old Roger W. PRYDDERCH living with his parents John (age 32) and Elizabeth P. PRYDDERCH (26) at 'Cwneglir' [sic], Dyffryn Honddu, Merthyr Cynog parish (this is actually Cwm-eglir farm, about 500 metres northwest of Upper Chapel village). According to the 1901 census, the family was originally from Llandeilo'r fân.

I suggest that Sue Painter looks for the PRYTHERCH/PRYDDERCH family in the 1891, 1881, 1871 and earlier censuses for Llandeilo'r fân to find their origins. For example, the 1891 census shows a likely PRYTHERCH family living at Brynmelyn, Llandeilo'r fân (mistranscribed as 'Llandilofawr' by Ancestry): RG12/4569 Folio 105 Page 4 Schedule 14. Because both the surname and the birthplace are often mistranscribed, you'll need to uncheck 'match exactly' when you search the indexes.
